This past summer we didn't get to do as many "summer things" as we had hoped/planned/assumed we would do. Fortunately, Zuriel was able to work many, many more hours than expected! Unfortunately, that meant we only went on two one-nighter camping trips and to the lake three times. It also meant we only ate snow cones maybe five times {which obviously isn't enough} and didn't go to Yellowstone National Park {which we've never done in the four years we've lived in Rexburg, a town very close to Yellowstone}. I could continue listing things we didn't get to do, but that is just negative and pessimistic and makes me seem ungrateful. And surprisingly, I am very grateful for many things this summer has offered us. It allowed us both to work more, providing an income for our little cutesy married life. The increase in time spent at work gave each of us more experience in our 'fields'. His in welding and steel fabrication. Mine in medical knowledge and experience on the ambulance. We were still able to come home in the evening after a day of work and just relax. Whether the relaxation included cuddling during a movie, playing a game, listening to music, reading a book, having good conversation, going on walks with our puppy, eating fresh fruit with fresh whipped cream, going to the park, or going to bed early, it was fabulous. It was fabulous because it was time spent together and that's all that matters.
We soon found a weekend we could take off for a mini vacation from work...labor day weekend! We left our puppy behind and drove four hours to Utah to stay at my parents' cabin for a weekend getaway. It was perfect!
We had wonderful breakfasts each morning after waking up without the "help" of an alarm clock. The few mornings I don't have to wake up to an alarm are cherished...seriously, one of my favorite things. We also saw a total of about 8 buck, 15 doe, 2 baby deer, a moose and her baby, a donkey, a horse, a red fox, hummingbirds, and some weird freaky animal Z decided to call a muskrat (?) all within a few short days!
Thanks mom and dad for letting us use the cabin, it was much needed alone time and peace from a busy summer schedule!
